Our general meetings are open to the public. Some trainings
are open to guests who have attended the general meeting preceding
the training (see Guest Policy to
the right); others are open only to BAMRU trainees and members.

falls on a holiday). Note there are two locations at which

The quarterly meeting of the
California Region of the
Mountain Rescue Association. These meetings are open to members and trainees
of CRMRA teams.

Skills
Castle Peak,

Snow skills training, including snow camping / snow caves / other
shelter, cross country navigation, snow stability assessment,
avalanche awareness, etc. We'll also discuss last year's
Castle Peak avalanche.

Technical Rescue and Recert Prep
Redwood City
February 26-27
Leaders: Tzvetie Erohina
Saturday will be a one-day technical rescue training, probably including a Kootenay
highline exercise, and is open to guests. Sunday will be a focused training
in preparation for the upcoming MRA rock-rescue recertification exam and is open
only to members and trainees attending the recert.

Our training exercise this month will give you experience working with maps and
the UTM grid system. This classroom training is one-day (Saturday) only and is
open to guests.

Swiftwater
Rescue
Mariposa County
April 16-17
Leaders: Dennis Meister
This will be a two day joint training with Mariposa SAR to cover various aspects
of Swift Water Rescue. We will join the Mariposa team on the Merced River to
learn about the techniques they use in rescues and recoveries. Topics will
include: Personal Protective Equipment, Swift Water Hydrodynamics, Basic Swift
Water Swimming, Throw Bag Tips and Techniques, River Search Procedures, etc.
The training will also include a night river search.
This training is open only to BAMRU trainees and members.

Mock
Search and Navigation
Huddart Park, San Mateo County
April 23
Leaders: Tzvetie Erohina, Ross Fleischman
The major part of this all-day training will be a mock search
and non-technical rescue, with a focus on improving resource
integration, communications and efficiency. We
will start the day with a quick overview of BAMRU's standing
operational guidelines for wilderness search, non-technical rescue
and communications. This
training will not attempt to teach these skills, so possession
of these skills or strong non-BAMRU experience plus permission
of the training leaders are mandatory prerequisites.

Rock
Skills for SAR

This training will differ from past rock-skills trainings by
focusing more on application to Search and Rescue in a technical
environment. We will focus on rock skills, risk assessment,
efficiency and self rescue, emphasizing the SAR role of these
skills. Open
to members and trainees only, with additional prerequisites;
contact the trip leaders for details.

Mountaineering
Mt. Dana, Yosemite N.P.
June 25-26
Leaders: Will Hirst, Jane Koski
BAMRU's summer snow workshop will focus on techniques and the simple
tools used in climbing on snow. A peak climb is not planned because
we have so much to cover. Open to guests with appropriate conditioning
and equipment with approval of the trip leaders.

Basic
Rock Rescue

This training will cover the basics of vertical rock rescue in
a wilderness setting. Topics will include at an introductory
level: load analysis and force management, rope technology
and handling, rescue knots and hitches, tandem-prusik belay,
mechanical advantage systems, litter rigging and handling,
and basic raising and lowering systems. This training
is open to BAMRU members, trainees and guests.

Crevasse
Rescue
Mt. Shasta
August 19-21
Leaders: Dennis Meister, (co-leader TBD)
We will ascend Mt. Shasta from the North side (e.g., the Hotlum
or Hotlum-Bolum routes), optionally summiting as weather permits.
On the way we will discuss and practice reading glaciers, route
finding, team travel, roped protection, crevasse rescue techniques,
cold- and altitude-related illness and treatment, and evacuation.
The weekend is open to BAMRU members, trainees and guests with
sufficient experience.

Advanced
Rock Rescue
Yosemite Valley
September 23-25

This intensive weekend will provide advanced-level training on
current best-practices for vertical rock rescue in a wilderness
setting. Lecture topics may include: load analysis,
system design and integration, operational communications and
control, integration with other teams, emerging ideas and technology,
and special situations. Field exercises will put these ideas
to use in live operations with lots of exposure. Both lectures
and field exercises will include detailed discussion of the how's
and why's of the systems BAMRU prefers.
Open to selected guests
with technical rescue experience.

Medical
Skills Workshop

Lass, (co-leader TBD)
Learn how to intervene and treat medical emergencies in the
outdoors. We will have lecture and skills with a variety of topics
in emergency outdoor medicine. We'll do patient assessments,
take vital signs and take a medical history. Practice immobilizing
fractures and injuries with different types of devices, packaging
patients with various injuries, and work with medical equipment.
Depending on the number of participants, a CPR provider class
may be held on day 2. Participation is open to BAMRU members
and guests.

The Spring 2005 semi-annual conference of the
Mountain Rescue Association will be held in Vail, Colorado this June. Registration

for all volunteer units. This is for members and trainees. Details

The annual International Technical Rescue Symposium "gathers
persons from across the spectrum of rescue disciplines to share
news and views on advances in equipment and techniques, technical
problems, and issues of mutual concern." Attendance is limited
