Mt. Dana, Yosemite National Park
June 25-26, 2005
Leaders: Will Hirst, Jane Koski
BAMRU members need to be comfortable while working in an
alpine environment. In order to search for or rescue others, they
need to
be able to move with confidence and safety. Our
summer snow workshop will
focus on techniques and the simple
tools used in climbing on snow. This will
be an opportunity to
learn or demonstrate competence. Areas to be covered include
climbing in balance, use
of ice axe and crampons, self arrest,
snow anchors, running belays, and fixed lines. A peak climb
is not planned because
we have so much to cover.
Beginners with sufficient conditioning and equipment are
welcome, with the training leader’s approval. Veterans can
find challenges too. We will be working at elevations over
3000 meters (10,000 ft.)
